This pleasant path along the Erie Canal offers views of the water with opportunities to explore some Old Enlarged Erie structures up close. The trail takes you right inside Lock 58 and along the top of Lock 59. You can contrast these old lock structures with the modern version by walking across the street to Lock 28B. The trail is named for the hamlet of Lockville that existed in this spot before it merged with the town of Millers Basin to become Newark in 1853.

Location:
Access is on North Clinton St. in the Village of Newark. The trail runs between N. Clinton and Lyons St., just north of Rt. 31 and south of the present Erie Canal.
