A New Chapter for the Hit the Trail App

This past March, Wegmans informed us that it would no longer provide financial support for the Hit the Trail Wayne County smartphone app after June 30, 2026, due to lower-than-expected usage. As a nonprofit organization, Trail Works will be unable to fund the app independently in the future.

Over the past several weeks, we have been working closely with Wayne County Tourism in Lyons and the app developer, STQRY, to explore options for continuing the app. Wayne County Tourism has agreed to serve as the lead agency in this effort, and is currently developing a strategic transition plan with input from Trail Works. We look forward to sharing updates as they become available and providing more information about the app’s future direction.

Members of the Trail Works Board are actively involved in this transition process. While the app will likely have a new look and new name, Wayne County’s trail system will remain a central feature. We are grateful to our partners at Wayne County Tourism for stepping forward and helping guide the transition. During this process, the current app will be unavailable for several months after June 30. Fortunately, Wegmans has committed to continuing the printing of our paper Passport booklets. The current edition, dated May 2025, contains only one change: the removal of the closed Dolomite Trail in Walworth. We are also reviewing our current trail system to identify updates and improvements for future editions of the Passport booklet.

Trail Works appreciates your patience as we go through this transition, and we look forward to sharing the redesigned Wayne County Trails app with you in the future.
